Are There Any Others? [Pause] No Seriously ARE THERE ANY OTHERS?!?!?!?!
I’ve been brushing up on my parliamentarian skills lately. I did co-chair my BPOU convention on Saturday. For the most part, that meant I handed off the mic to the dozens of candidates running for statewide office or their surrogates.
One of those candidates was Dennis Nguyen who is currently running unopposed for Republican endorsement for the open Secretary of State race. I had seen his campaign and activities online for months, but until last week, not in person. A good speaker and conveys a good message of campaign strength, but!?!?!?!
Beyond the stripper issue, the campaign’s terrible judgement, and incredibly bad crisis management, there are other aspects of the Nguyen campaign that should be concerning.
Nguyen sold himself to activists and the legislators who endorsed him as someone would be able to fundraise, and also self fund his campaign, yet there has been little evidence of this so far. As of the end of 2013, Nguyen raised a mere $10,000, and loaned his campaign another $20,000.
When you add that to Nguyen’s opposition to photo ID, it’s hard to see a compelling reason for Nguyen’s continued candidacy.
Read the rest of Jeff’s blog post to find out about the (shakes head) strip club issue, but it appears that some of the promises of strong campaign being made are not panning out as Dennis claims. In other words, all hat no cattle. This could open the door for someone like Mary Kiffmeyer to jump in late which is not a suitable alternative in my opinion.
The Party of family values really can do better. Well, we should do better.
