The Rush To Cover Up DFL Legislator’s Rest Stop Sex Rendezvous Involving A Minor

If you were a 56 year old man and thought it would be a crime to have anonymous rest stop sex with a 17 year old boy so you asked for ID before you did have sex with with him in public, only to later find out he was actually 17, but were lucky and the age of consent was actually 16 in Minnesota, does that mean we can put this whole DFL Rep. Gauthier rest stop sex scandal under that rug over there and get back to the Brodkorb affair?

Here’s an interesting bit that I saw in a KARE 11 story about DFL Rep. Gauthier’s Rest Stop Sex ”rendezvous”.

Both Gauthier and the 17-year-old told police the oral sex was consensual and no money was exchanged, according to the police report.

Are they sure? Did they check to see if either DFL Rep. Gauthier or the 17 year old minor that he had just had sex with had cash in their pockets? Did they investigate the Craigslist postings to see if there was an offering of cash? Has either of them done this sort of thing in the past? What is their history of this? Did the Police check either of their Craigslist or other online accounts to see if this was a pattern.

DFL Rep. Gauthier’s rest stop sex “rendezvous” occurred approximately 11PM on July 22nd . Why use Craigslist?

The questions are endless on where you would go if you wanted to make sure that 56 year old men weren’t looking for minors to have sex with.

The police report also states Gauthier told police the boy said he was 18. The 17-year-old also told police he had indicated he was 18 to Gauthier.

Sounds the Mark Ritchie school of ID verification to me…..

The defense being deployed in this one seems to be: Well, 16 is the age of consent, so oh well, move along nothing to see here…..

DFL Rep. Gauthier didn’t  know that the legal age of consent was 16. Does he do this sort of thing a lot and knows to ask? He verified that the anonymous person he was about to have sex with was 18, well, he at least asked. He was wrong and the boy was in fact a minor, but at least he asked. Rep. Gaulthier is a State Lawmaker folks.  So the anonymous rest stop sex “rendezvous” partner seemed young young enough to ask. Or it just standard in these sorts of “rendezvous”.

The ick factor of this one tops any political scandal I can remember….

DFL Rep. Gauthier official Minnesota House of Representatives page lists his occupation as “Social Services”.  The Campaign Finance Statement of Economic Interest lists him as a State Employee.

DFL Rep. Gauthier is on the Public Safety and Crime Prevention Policy committee.

Votesmart.org lists DFL Rep. Gauthier‘s professional experience: “Social Services, Field of Addiction and Recovery” and lists some organizations he is or was involved with.

Former Member, Board of Directors, Good Fellowship Club
Former Coordinator, Share Food Drive
Former Member, Board of Directors, Spirit Valley Youth Center

A youth center?

Maybe this was just a coincidence and maybe DFL Rep. Gauthier doesn’t normally have sex in public with minors, but don’t you think maybe just maybe….  we want to make sure we don’t have our own home grown Sandusky on our hands?

Do we really want to just put this behind us because no money was exchanged?


Maybe we should require a Photo ID for Rest Stop Sex. DFL Rep. Gauthier should request that be added to the Special Session….
